Across the world, leather has been used since the dawn of man for protection, survival, and all manner of utility. It can be thought of as a 'second skin.' I love working with leather because of its durability, versatility, and all-around usefulness, as well as leather's natural beauty.
I am inspired by individually hand-crafted goods, especially those with utility, and I despise the mass-production of cheap products currently defining our culture. I am part of a movement by many artists like myself, attempting to counteract this lack of individuality and quality in the everyday things we purchase and use.
I've found leather to be a somewhat lost art, as far as creating hand-stitched wares, and I'm always pleased to see someone look twice at what I'm doing while stitching something they don't see every day.
I hope that these pieces bring you as much joy as they bring me.
Cheers,
Xander
